ACCESSIBILITY
Accessibility statement.
We want this website to work for everyone who visits it, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or rely on other assistive technology.
Our commitment
Lexington Lions Club is committed to making lexingtonlions.com accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use to browse the web. We see this as an ongoing effort, not a one-time project—we review the site periodically and make corrections when we find or are told about a problem.
Conformance target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the widely used standard for web accessibility. This statement reflects a site-wide review we completed in October 2026, including automated testing of every page with the axe-core accessibility engine and a manual check of the items automated tools can't fully judge on their own, such as whether text alternatives actually make sense in context.
What we've done
Some of the specific work from our October 2026 review:
- Corrected the heading structure on every page so screen reader users can navigate the site by heading level without skipping or doubling up.
- Checked text and interface colors against WCAG's contrast requirements, and darkened a few colors that were too light to read reliably.
- Made sure every interactive control—buttons, links, form fields, the photo gallery, the calendar, and map previews—can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
- Reviewed every image: photos and graphics that convey information have descriptive alt text, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers so they don't add noise.
- Labeled page regions (banners, navigation, forms) so assistive technology can describe the layout and let visitors jump straight to the part of the page they need.
Known limitations
A few parts of the site are outside our direct control and may not fully match the standard above:
- Embedded content from other services—the Google Maps preview of our meeting location and our Facebook link—is built and maintained by those companies, not by us.
- Some documents linked from the site, such as our golf tournament registration form, are PDFs supplied for printing and may not be fully accessible. If you need one of these documents in another format, contact us and we'll help.
Let us know
If you run into an accessibility barrier anywhere on this site, or you need information in a different format, we want to hear about it. Please include the page you were on and, if you can, the device or assistive technology you were using.
